Poco to Launch New Smartphone in India in Less Than 1 Month: Report

Xiaomi recently reported the launch of a new phone by independent brand Poco in the next 20 to 25 days. This has been confirmed by none other than Poco India General Manager C Manmohan in a recent interview.
Poco X2 was recently launched in the country earlier this year, and now the company is preparing to launch another smartphone in the Indian market.

The next Poco

Given China’s growing sentiment among citizens, Poco has been stressing about its establishment in the country recently.
Its Twitter account is full of confirmation about being an Indian brand, and how it was born in Delhi two years ago.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Manmohan said that a new Poco device will be launched in India in the next 20 to 25 days.
“We are definitely going to launch a new phone soon … We want to make sure that the philosophy that we bring to different price categories,” he said.
While there is no clarity as to which phone can be launched, the company can bring Poco F2 Pro in India.
This phone was launched in Europe last month and now it can be launched in India soon. The company is also working on a new phone called Poco M2 Pro and it may be launched in India as well.
The phone was recently spotted on both the Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG sites. More clarity as to which device the company plans to launch soon, as teasers will begin to be released in the future.

Poco F2 Pro or Poco M2 Pro?

According to previous reports, it seems that Poco may be another smartphone in its repertoire that is ready for launch. The Poco M2 Pro was spotted on Xiaomi’s website some time ago and while taking down the listing, it hinted users about a new lineup in addition to the F and X range of smartphones.
Similarly, a rebonded Poco F2 Pro of Redmi K20 Pro was recently launched in global markets. Even that smartphone is rumored to have reached the Indian shores as a successor to the Poco F1, however, there is no concrete information around it yet.
In any case, the next month and a half will be very exciting for Indian consumers, spoiling them for choice as companies fall into overdrive after an epidemic-induced sluggish period. For Poco, let us wait for the official details about the upcoming Poco device.
Apart from the smartphone, Poco has also confirmed that it is working on launching its first truly wireless earphone – Poco Pop Buds in India.
So far, no details are available for Poco Pop Buds, but the company says it is one step closer to making its first truly wireless earphones a reality.
Poco Pop Buds will be the first audio product by the smartphone brand.
If the company were to launch the Poco F2 Pro, the price of the phone in Europe would be 499 euros (about Rs 41,500). Key features include a pop-up selfie camera and a quad rear camera setup.
The Poco F2 Pro also comes with the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. The Poco F2 Pro also comes with 5G support, and is essentially a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 Pro.

US Intelligence Agency Warns About Windows 10 Security Flaw; 80 Crore Users Can Be Impacted

On 14 January, Microsoft released a patch for Windows 10 and Server 2016 after the National Security Agency found and disclosed a serious vulnerability.US Intelligence Agency Warns About Windows 10 Security Flaw; 80 Crore Users Can Be Impacted

How Did This Happen?

As per the reports, there is a  bug present in Windows’ mechanism for confirming the legitimacy of software or establishing secure web connections.
Because the verification check itself isn’t trustworthy, attackers can exploit that fact to remotely distribute malware or intercept sensitive data.Related: Redmi K20 Pro Marvel Hero Limited Edition Announced, Comes With an Iron Man-Themed Finish
There is a flaw, specifically in Microsoft’s CryptoAPI service, which helps developers cryptographically “sign” software and data or generate digital certificates used in authentication—all to prove trustworthiness and validity when Windows checks for it on users’ devices.
With the current findings, an attacker could potentially exploit the bug to undermine crucial protections, and ultimately take control of victim devices.

What Does NASA Suggest?

On Tuesday, Anne Neuberger, head of the NSA’s Cybersecurity Directorate, said: “[We are] recommending that network owners expedite implementation of the patch immediately as we will also be doing,”.
“When we identified a broad cryptographic vulnerability like this we quickly turned to work with the company to ensure that they could mitigate it,” she said.
Giving more information on the subject, Neuberger said that disclosing the code verification bug to Microsoft and the public is part of a new NSA initiative in which the agency will share its vulnerability findings more quickly and more often.
She added that the effort will work alongside the existing Vulnerability Equities Process run by the National Security Council, which weighs the national security importance of keeping hacking tools secret versus disclosing vulnerabilities.
That’s the reason, NSA didn’t just disclose the vulnerability but made its role public. “It’s hard for entities to trust that we indeed take this seriously,” she said, “and [that] ensuring that vulnerabilities can be mitigated is an absolute priority.”

How Critical The Vulnerability Is?

CEO of the corporate security evaluation firm TrustedSec, David Kennedy said: “Think of signing malware as if it’s trusted by Microsoft or intercepting encrypted web traffic, that would completely evade so many protections”. He formerly worked at the NSA. Related: Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Note 10+ Leak Shows Gradient Design; Galaxy Note 10 5G Tipped to Offer 1TB Storage
Usually, researchers and cybercriminals both study the vulnerability and rush to develop a hacking tool that takes advantage of it, the scale of the risk to users will become more clear.
However, a flaw in a crucial cryptographic component of Windows is certainly problematic, especially given that Windows 10 is the most-used operating system in the world, installed on more than 900 million PCs.
security principal at MongoDB and director of the Open Crypto Audit Project, Kenn White said: “This is a core, low-level piece of the Windows operating system and one that establishes trust between administrators, regular users, and other computers on both the local network and the internet,”.
“If the technology that ensures that trust is vulnerable, there could be catastrophic consequences. But precisely what scenarios and preconditions are required—we’re still analyzing. It will be a long day for a lot of Windows administrators around the world,” he added. Related:  NOKIA 6.2 AND NOKIA 7.2 LAUNCH COULD REPORTEDLY HAPPEN IN AUGUST IN INDIA AND RUSSIA
It’s not the first time before this the Eternal Blue fiasco happened in 2017 then also NSA faced major criticism for its practice of hoarding vulnerabilities for its own exploitation rather than disclosing them so they could be fixed.
Though NSA has disclosed this bug that doesn’t mean that the NSA is going to give up its whole arsenal of hacking tools, nor should it.
However, the move toward transparency is a welcome step, even if it also serves as NSA image rehab.

India’s growing manufacturing sector props up industrial automation equipment demand

Despite a worldwide slowdown in the growth of the industrial automation equipment (IAE) market, the strong expansion of India’s manufacturing sector is allowing the global IAE industry to remain on an expansion trajectory in 2019.
The annual IAE market revenue growth will decrease to 3.2 percent in 2019, down from 4.7 percent worldwide in 2018. Globally, the IAE demand growth is being diminished by weakening conditions both in the manufacturing industry and in the economy at large.
In contrast, India is experiencing a robust rise in its industrial sector, driving demand for automation in factories.
“Even as IAE growth decelerates throughout most of the world, India’s market is experiencing growth as it’s the economy and industrial market continues to generate strong growth,” said Nitin Sharma, analyst, manufacturing technology, at IHS Markit.
“Despite challenges, including poor infrastructure, difficulties in land acquisition, complex taxation laws and supply chain inefficiencies, India is becoming an increasingly attractive location for manufacturing. Moreover, the Indian government’s initiatives like the ‘Make in India’ program and incentives for various manufacturing companies are creating an environment conducive to accelerating manufacturing sector growth.”

India’s manufacturing boom

India’s real gross domestic product (GDP) is projected to increase by 6.6 percent in the fiscal year 2019, which started April 1. Another 6.8 percent increase is expected in the fiscal year 2020.
In May, the Nikkei India Manufacturing PMI rebounded to 52.7, up 0.9 points from April. The rise in PMI was driven by the expansion in consumer goods industries.
Manufacturing output, total new orders, export orders, and employment also have accelerated. With India’s economy and manufacturing sector on the rise, demand for more industrial automation equipment is set to increase as well.

Government boosts Indian manufacturing

The Indian government’s measures to improve industrial policies are fueling growth in 25 key industrial sectors, including electronic systems, electrical machinery, automotive, aviation, defense, and pharmaceuticals. These measures include increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) limits, simplifying labor laws, promoting skill development and easing the process of doing business.
India’s mobile phone manufacturing industry is a good example of these efforts.
Under the government’s “Make in India” program, various initiatives have been undertaken to establish a robust mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem in India. The Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) is one such initiative wherein indigenous mobile manufacturing is promoted via fiscal and financial incentives.
Recently, companies like Foxconn and Samsung have established major manufacturing facilities in the country. By 2018, imports of the electronic devices in the country had been reduced to less than half of total domestic consumption and India had become the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer after China, replacing Vietnam.
The government’s “Make in India” initiative is also supporting expansion and localization efforts for several established car manufacturers. IHS Markit forecasts light vehicle production will reach more than 4.8 million units in 2019, up 8 percent from 2018.

Automation suppliers target Indian market

With a growing manufacturing sector backed by key government initiatives, India has become an important market for automation suppliers.
Worldwide programmable logic controller (PLC) market revenue is forecast to grow by 3.3 percent and 3.6 percent in 2019 and 2020 respectively, according to the IHS Markit PLCs Intelligence Service. In contrast, the Indian market is expected to grow by 7.9 percent and by 9.9 percent in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
Worldwide revenue for the industrial PC market is forecast to grow by 3.1 percent and 1 percent in 2019 and 2020 respectively, as per the IHS Markit Industrial PCs Intelligence Service. However, in India, the revenue is expected to grow by 7.1 percent and by 5.3 percent in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
The service also forecasts point of sale/point of information (PoS/PoI) applications will be the second-fastest-growing sector for industrial PCs globally, with a revenue CAGR of 4.1 percent from 2017 to 2022. The modernization of the retail sector in India, such as the establishment of supermarkets and hypermarkets, will continue to contribute to the growth in this segment. Schneider Electric launches Innovation Challenge, ‘Hackware 2019’ in India
According to the IHS Markit Industrial Edge Networking Components Intelligence Service – Annual, the revenues for industrial edge networking components in India are forecast to grow fastest in the Asia-pacific region. The high rate of growth forecast for the economy and industrial manufacturing base in India will drive the increased adoption of industrial Ethernet communications.
